This book is an original copy of The Wizard of Oz. The original cover was made of a cloth material and was mangled and torn. The original lettering was screen printed onto the cover and was coming off. The customer wanted to keep the original cover on this book, to help keep the value, so we did what he asked. We decided to restored this cover made from cloth and to glue it onto a brand new cover we made. We used a special homemade glue to keep the original cloth cover to the new cover, a glue that wouldn't destroy the original. Since it was a cloth cover, we couldn't use the traditional white glue because it would bleed through and ruin the original cloth cover. Once we had the original glued onto the new cover with our homemade glue, we had to go through and try to create an original look with the cover and all the lettering. A link was found with a picture of the original cover, and we used this to help re-create the missing text on the cover we had. The last 2 images are of the finished work. As you can see, the stain under the word wizard is still there, we tried to get it off, but would ruin the cover completely by doing so. But seeing this stain shows that it is the original and not just a copy of it. We here at Artur Bookbinding specialize in resortation not only on family bibles, but all types of books and keepsakes.
