This is a Family Bible that we restored which had only half of the original spine.  We made a new bottom half for to spine on the bible, and the portion of the old spine that we restored was used for the top half.  We trimmed off the bottom ornament and moved it to the top.  If you look at the old spine before restoration, see that it had 2 ornaments under Holy Bible, and the restored section on the finished bible has one above Holy Bible and one below.  It's hard to see that we did this move of pieces and the old spine blends so well with the new one.  We also restored and dyed the bible's cover, and this help out to bring out the beautiful gold stamping.  Then we put a new piece of leather around the bible cover and dyed it to match the color and to protect the edges of the Family Bible .  This Restored Family Bible was stunning, so we had to add it!!!
